KARATE
Shorinjiryu
Kenkyukai Karatedo
at
Nassau County PAL
The Nassau County PAL is happy to provide our
community with a Karate program of the highest quality while at a
very affordable rate. We offer Traditional Japanese Karate taught
by a senior instructor well known for his technical expertise,
tournament success and teaching experience. Our program is
designed to help students improve themselves mentally and physically.
We focus on developing attention skills, perseverance and character
while learning a challenging physical discipline. Students benefit
academically and socially from the skills and experiences acquired from
karate training. Our classes are disciplined yet allow students to
have fun while working hard toward achieving their goals.
Shihan John Grima teaches at the Nassau County PAL
units in Uniondale and Westbury. Mr. Grima is ranked Rokudan(6th
degree) black belt with the title Shihan(Master Teacher) in the
Kenkyukai Karate Federation and is Chief Instructor of Shorinjiryu
Kenkyukai Karatedo. Shihan Grima began his Karate training in 1981
and has been teaching for the Nassau County PAL as well as
other locations in New York since 1985. He has trained in
Shorinjiryu Karate under the guidance of several distinguished Masters.
His principal mentor is Saiko Shihan Shunji Watanabe. The
teachings of Shihan Grima primarily follow the forms and techniques of Master
Watanabe who is a direct student of the late Shinan Kori
Hisataka(founder of Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo). Shihan Grima
began his training under the guidance of Shihan John A. Mirrione and
also had the pleasure of learning from Hanshi Masayuki Hisataka(founder
Kori Hisataka’s son). In addition to Karate training, Mr. Grima
has supplemented his martial arts knowledge with Judo training under
Sensei Kiyoshi Shiina(8th degree) and Sensei Hank Kraft(6th degree) both
certified by the Kodokan in Japan.
Shorinjiryu Kenkyukai emphasizes body movement and
footwork accompanied by powerful and proven techniques as well as other
unique training practices founded by Shinan Kori Hisataka. We do
not offer the flashy presentation of many modern schools. We
strive for realism and self improvement. Our motto is: “The
Spiritual Development of Individuality in Mind and Body”.
Additionally, our constant goal is “Kaizen” meaning Continuous
Improvement.
