Here's the latest from the NGCA, February 2008

President Melvin Harris of the Nostrand Gardens Civic Association is planning a Tax Revolt on Uniondale Ave in April. The Uniondale community is being under served. Uniondale stands to lose millions of dollars in commercial tax revenue if we don't act now! President Harris stresses that the Uniondale community cannot remain silent on this issue.

Positive results were reported by the People's Campaign Sanitation and Graffiti Removal Committee. Several sanitation "hot spots" in the community (including "Hofstra Houses") have been cleaned up. Unsightly graffiti has been removed from businesses along Jerusalem and Uniondale Avenues. Nostrand gardens Civic Association applauds sanitation Superintendent John Sandrowicz, Assistant Inspector Frank Pepe, Supervisor for Inspections (TOH Building Dept) Ray Schwarz and the N.C.P.D. P.O.P unit for partnering with our organization in our efforts to clean-up our community.

Crime is on the rise in our community. President Melvin Harris announced that he is chairing the People's Campaign Crime Reduction Committee. The committee has partnered with the first precinct and our elected officials to tackle this most serious quality of life issue.

Mr. Ricky Ford, Scoutmaster of Troop 390 in Uniondale is reaching out to the community for project suggestions for his scouts. Several of his scouts are aspiring to reach Eagle Scout status and are in need of projects that would enable them to reach their goal. Mr. Ford can be contacted at 516-565-5348 (H) and 516-690-3146 (Cell).

The Nostrand Gardens Civic Association urges all residents to come and join our People's Campaign... get involved and become a voice for the community. Meeting dates are as follows: March 3rd, April 7th, May 5th June 2nd, September 8th, October 6th, November 3rd and December 1st. Meetings are held the first Monday of every month at 7pm in the lower level of the Uniondale Library.
