The Nassau County Police Department Community Safety Unit Auxiliary Police Section appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Haydee Castillo to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 bringing the number of active members to 15. Officer Castillo will be attending the Nassau County Police Academy in January 2007 to start her training. She had a warm welcome from Inspector Consuerga and the members of the unit.

Why Auxiliary Police

  • To relieve regular police for other duties
  • To provide more visible patrols to reduce burglaries and acts of vandalism
  • To aid in traffic control in areas around major accidents and fires
  • To patrol during parades and special events

The Organization

The auxiliary police was established in 1941 under the State Defense Emergency Act, to help the regular police in an event of civil defense emergency.

The auxiliary police is a volunteer organization of citizens who are pledged to serve the community without pay.

The auxiliary police are the "trained eyes and ears" of the regular police.  Just the presence of the police uniforms helps to prevent crime and other problems.

Trained by the Nassau County Police Academy for 22 weeks covering peace officer powers, New York State penal law, hazardous materials awareness, baton training, blood-borne pathogens, basic first aid/CPR, traffic and pedestrian control, handicapped parking enforcement, response to critical incidents and many aspects of community service.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, must be a resident of Nassau County, must be a citizen of the United States, must possess a valid New York State driver's license, must possess a

High School Diploma or G.E.D.  Must be of good moral character without a felony conviction. A misdemeanor conviction may also prevent acceptance. No more than one (1) alcohol related driving offense. Must pass a physical examination, must submit to fingerprinting, Must consent to a background investigation. Must submit to a drug test and be willing to submit to a psychological exam. Members with certain disabilities may be eligible to serve in non-patrol duties, such as the Auxiliary Police Communications Unit.

Here's a sneak peak at the new design for the Auxiliary Police patrol cars. The unit expects to get the new cars by the end of 2005.

September 1, 2005
The Nassau County Police Department Community Safety Unit Auxiliary Police Section appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Jenny Ramirez to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Ramirez will start her training at the Nassau County Police Academy on September 14th. She had a warm welcome from Inspector Consuegra and the members of the unit.

August 23, 2005
The Nassau County Police Department Community Saftery Unit Auxiliary Police Section appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Marcos Reyes to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Reyes will be attending the Nassau County Police Academy in September to start his training. He had a warm welcome from Inspector Consuerga, Commanding Officer and members of the unit

November 30, 2004
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Clive Campbell to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Campbell is a sergeant with the US army reserve serving in Iraq and returning home to join the auxiliary police in Uniondale. He is currently attending the Nassau County Police Academy and will graduate in March of 2005 with twenty five other officers that were appointed for different auxiliary police units in Nassau County.

September 15, 2003
The Nassau County Police department appointed Auxiliary Police officers Kenny Valladares and Maurice Jean-Baptiste to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122.  The officers will be attending the Nassau Police academy in October to start their training.  Both officers had a warm welcome from the members of the Unit.

August 27, 2003
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 presented the community service award to Selma Rubin Uniondale School District Clerk. The Auxiliary Police was pleased to commend Mrs. Rubin on her outstanding service on behalf of the Uniondale Unit and dedication to the youth of our community.

June 4, 2003
Inspector Arturo Consuegra presented the Inspector Jack H. Chan Memorial Scholarship to this year's recipient, Uniondale High School student Diana Ruano for her outstanding work and research on using different types of grass to prevent groundwater pollution from fertilizer.

April 27, 2003
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 participated with auxiliary police units from all over USA, Canada and Europe in the fifteenth annual interfaith memorial service at the Church of the Incarnation in New York City in honor of all auxiliary police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and all members of law enforcement.  After the service the New York City police escorted the auxiliary police officers to ground zero to have a prayer for the victims of September 11.  

April 24, 2003
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Emner Aguilar to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122.  Officer Aguilar will be attending the Nassau County Police Academy for his training. He had a warm welcome from Inspector Consuegra Commanding Officer and members of the unit.

March 7, 2003
On March 7, 2003 Deputy Inspector Arturo Consuegra, Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit was promoted to the rank of inspector by Nassau County Police Commissioner James Lawrence.  Also promoted by the commissioner were Lt. Philip Aievoli to captain, Sgt. George Brooks to lieutenant and Pfc Laurence Dittmer to sergeant.

August 1, 20002
The Nassau County Police Department appointed auxiliary police officer Jean S. Jean to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Jean will attend the Nassau Police Academy in September to start his training. Inspector A. Consuegra, commanding officer of the Uniondale unit, welcomed officer Jean to the force

  June 5, 2002 
Lt. Phil Aevoli presented the Inspector Jack H. Chan Memorial Scholarship to this year's recipient Uniondale High School student Emily Jo Reynolds for her outstanding community service and academy excellence.

May 9, 2002
The Nassau County Police Department presented the excellent service award to Inspector Arturo Consuegra, Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit for his assistance in arresting a drunk driver in Uniondale. The driver had a collision with four cars injuring three people on Front Street.

April 23, 2002

The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 presented the community service award to Raymond R. Rhoden , President of Uniondale School Board for his outstanding service on behalf of the Uniondale Auxiliary Police and the youth of our community.

April 21, 2002

The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 participated with auxiliary police units from all over the USA, Canada and Europe in the fourteenth annual interfaith memorial service at Temple Emanu-el in New York City in honor of all the auxiliary police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and all members of law enforcement, EMS and firefighters who died on September 11.

January 11, 2002 

The Nassau County Police Department appointed auxiliary police officer Rosa Huezo to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Huezo will be attending the Nassau police academy in the spring for her training. She had a warm welcome from inspector Consuegra commanding officer and members of the unit.

July 22, 2001
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Jeremiah J. Campbell to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122.  Officer Campbell will attend the Nassau Police Academy in September to start his training.  Inspector A. Consuegra commanding officer of the Uniondale Unit, welcomed Officer Campbell to the force.

 June 6, 2001 
Inspector A. Consuegra commanding officer of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit presented the Inspector Jack H. Chan memorial scholarship to this year's recipient Uniondale High School student Melissa Garcia for her outstanding community service and academy excellence.

May 22, 2001
On May 22, 2001 Captain Arturo Consuegra Commanding Officer of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 was promoted to Deputy Inspector by Nassau County Police Commissioner William J. Willett. Inspector Consuegra has been with the Auxiliary Police for 14 years and Commanding officer of the Uniondale unit since 1997.

April 1, 2001
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 participated with auxiliary police units from all over USA, Canada and Europe in the Thirteenth Annual Interfaith Memorial Service at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City in honor of all auxiliary police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and those who have died in the past years and all members of Law Enforcement.

February 4, 2001
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit participated in the 7th annual Uniondale: A TRUE GLOBAL VILLAGE at the Uniondale Public Library with other community organizations. The Uniondale Auxiliary Police had a table with officers handing out brochures and information how to join the Auxiliary Police in Nassau County. Captain Consuegra commanding officer of the Uniondale unit explained to the people that were at the event when and how the Auxiliary Police was created and the role that we take in the community been the eyes and ears of the Nassau County Police Department.

October 2, 2000
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Rodney Guerreir to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122.  Officer Guerrier is currently attending the Nassau County Police Academy for his training and will graduate in January of 2001 with two officers that were appointed in early summer to the Uniondale Unit and thirty more that were appointed for different units in Nassau County.

September 9, 2000
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 participated in the Nassau Caribbean Parade with the Hempstead Police and Nassau Police Department. The Parade was hosted by the Village of Hempstead and went thru Uniondale to the Nassau Community College.

September 1, 2000
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Jean Alvarez to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122.  Officer Alvarez had a warm welcome from the members of the unit and he is currently attending the Nassau County Police Academy for his training and will graduate in January of 2001 with thirty more officers that were appointed for different units in Nassau County.

June 23, 2000
The Nassau County Police Department appointed Auxiliary Police Officer Haydn Smith to the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122. Officer Smith will attend the Nassau Police Academy in September to start his training. Captain A. Consuegra commanding officer of the Uniondale unit welcomed officer Smith to the force. 

June 20, 2000
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 presented the Community Service Award to Susan K. Kern, Director of the Uniondale Public Library for her outstanding service and dedication to the Youth of Uniondale.

June 17, 2000
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Uniondale Unit 122 participated in the seventh Battalion Parade hosted by Uniondale Fire Department, other Auxiliary units from different towns came to assist with traffic and crowd control. 

June 7, 2000
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police, Uniondale Unit 122 will present the Inspector Jack H. Chan Memorial Scholarship to this year's recipient:  Uniondale High School student Jason Murray.

May 20, 2000
The Nassau County Auxiliary Police, Uniondale Unit 122 participated in the march HEVN (Helping End Violence Now) with Uniondale community organizations and the Nassau County police first precinct.
