The following is from his April 21, 2008 e-mail:

Dear Friend,

The recent reported abuses of the state pension system by some independent professional consultants, who work for school and government, are reprehensible. These abuses were first pointed out by our office in 2005 in connection with our audits of sanitation districts.

I am very pleased that New York State Attorney General Cuomo, New York State Comptroller DiNapoli, and Nassau District Attorney Rice are reviewing these practices. My office is investigating into whether any other independent County contractors were improperly granted pension credits or full time employment status, like independent contractor Albert D’Agostino, which qualified them to receive generous benefits at taxpayer expense.

I have also requested that Nassau County taxpayers be repaid any monies which were wrongly paid out for pensions improperly claimed.

Taxpayers here in Nassau County and the New York State already carry a heavy tax burden. When one person abuses the state pension system, all taxpayers suffer the consequences and also lose trust and faith in their elected officials and government.

I have included some recent news stories on the subject of pension abuse for your review.
